Learning new stuff

Am trying to get my head around stored procedures in SQL Server today. This place is generally an Ingres platform, where we use dbprocs. Of course, the syntax for SQL Server is different, and it's a case of trying to translate from one slightly hamstrung language to another.

Of course, I'm quite certain that you could blind me with accountancy jargon with no effort on your part whatsoever...

...sadly, jargon is a necessary evil of jobs technical - that said, this post was probably even less interesting if you understood it!

Whenever I tried translating some code from one language into another, I gave up somehwere and wrote the code completely new... Different languages usually have too different concepts so you can't just replace code words by other.

Yup, got it working in the end, but completely different coding to get it to work.
