Re-Evaluating Canon: OotP

OK, I'm up to Chapter 7 of Order of the Phoenix (Harry's about to set off with Arthur to the Ministry of Magic for his hearing), and am rather enjoying it this time around.

Anyone up for a leisurely, simultaneous re-read/discussion?

I'm afraid at the moment nothing can drag me away from The Reality Dysfunction... page 991 and Ione's team have unearthed the original sensevise of the Laymil discovery of the reality dysfunction.

It's corny and clunky and sections are dangerously close to pr0n, but it's compelling, too, no?

And, if I haven't mentioned it already, I totally <3 Ione :-)

Yes, she is just a little hard core, but that's the Saldana in her: Lord of Ruin (isn't that an awesome title?).

But she's also got a soft side - witness her playing in the sea with the cute alien toddler :-)

She also has this fantastic moment with the sarjeants that Joshua has assigned to him later on. 'tis most amusing, and underlines her character rather nicely :-)

And Tranquility has some clever tricks up its sleeve that get hinted to now and then throught TRD and TNA, but don't get revealed until TNG.

I do remember being distinctly underwhelmed by OotP when I first read it (through the night, in a hotel in Brighton), but coming back to it, I'm actually enjoying it a lot more.

It does tend to grow on you more on the second/third readings, I have to say - I noticed more of the humour those times. Glad you're liking it :-)

I don't know if there's an HP comm - I was just intending to post here, and was thinking of a chapter a day sort of pace, to give fellow journallers a chance to catch/keep up.

You're more than welcome to follow me - I'm really fringe fandom, HP-wise, so you might not find all my witterings of interest. :-)

Of course, I have no idea where my copies of the books are. Certainly I am fairly sure that they are not here.

I've got about 100 pages left of my present book (not counting my upcoming textbook), but I've actually been planning to re-read OotP soon because that's the next book I'll be reading to the girls and I want a refresher so I can better decide when they'll be ready to handle it.

I'm planning on doing a discussion post, one chapter per day, so that hopefully people can keep up (either by reading one chapter a day, or squeezing in seven at the weekend or whatever). And I'm going to start off at Ch 1. Explanatory post coming up :-)
